Adding This One Thing to Your Masking Routine Might Change Everything

3 different brushes for applying face masks

You probably look forward to the time you get to spoil your skin with a mask. Masks are arguably one of my favorite beauty indulgences—I unabashedly and obsessively mask three to four times a week with different formulas depending on how my skin is feeling that day. Most of the time my skin comes out looking its best post-mask in my tiny apartment bathroom, no spa necessary. But there’s one thing I credit with making my masking session feel even more legit: a face mask brush.

Before you roll your eyes at this extra step in your masking routine, hear me out. Have you ever thought about all the dirt, oil, and grime you’re transporting onto your skin when you apply a mask with your hands? Applying your mask with a clean brush lowers the chances of any of that gross stuff sticking to your skin and makes your process even more pure with special spa-like feels. With a mask brush, you’ll find yourself using way less product because it’s so much easier to distribute an even, thin layer onto your skin. Not to mention that it cuts your cleanup time in half because it’s not all over your hands and sink. Plus, it makes your masking session feel so zen. There’s something about applying a mask with a brush that feels 10 times better. The next time one of your masks comes with a brush, don’t throw it out. Or even better, cop one of the below mask brushes and watch how good this extra step feels.

Bareminerals Skinsorials Mask Essentials Duo
BareMinerals Skinsorials Mask Essentials Duo $10.00

This mask smoothing brush is angled in such a way that it hugs the contours of your face to get into every crevice for even product application. It comes with a handy mask removal cloth so you can avoid the mess.

Moda Spa Face Mask Applicator Kit $8.00

This duo set of silicone spatula brushes make masking easy. The large brush is so soft (I keep it in my medicine cabinet) and is created to fit the contours of your face, while the smaller brush is designed for harder-to-reach areas like underneath your eyes so nothing gets left behind.

Use makeup removing wipes for a quick and easy way to clean your face mask brush in between uses.

Silicone Pack Brush
I Dew Care Silicone Pack Brush $8.00

This K-beauty brand crafted this silicone jelly brush to make masking feel good. This bendable, spatula-shaped tip makes masking so quick. Plus, this super-chic packaging is a nice added touch.

Foundation & Mask Brush
Chantecaille Foundation & Mask Brush $37.00

The brand markets this multitasking tool as a foundation and mask brush. This two-in-one tool features synthetic fibers, which pick up the perfect amount of product for an even application. It’s worth the price tag because masking should feel like a treat. You deserve it.

E.l.f. Cosmetics Pore Refining Brush & Mask Tool $6.00

This pore-cleansing brush works to remove dirt and grime from down under while making masking an absolute breeze with its flexible, silicone-based structure.

GlamGlow Double Ended Treatment Application Brush $10.00

I credit this mini dual-ended brush for the onset of my undying love for mask brushes. Its super-soft bristles make application a breeze.

The Body Shop Facial Mask Brush $15.00

This slightly slanted brush is made to touch every nook and cranny on your face so every spot gets some mask love. The long, tapered bristles on this brush make scooping and applying product easy.

Origins Facial Mask Brush $15.00

The brand calls this brush “plush,” so you know you’re in for a treat when it’s mask time. Its flat and shorter bristles make cleanup super simple.

herbivore mask brush
Herbivore Botanicals Mask Applicator Brush $18.00

A brush made of super-soft Taklon bristles, which are both vegan and cruelty-free. Gentle on the environment, the animals, and your skin.

We promise mask brushes are worth the extra step in your self-care routine. They save product, time, and a future mess.
