Okay, we’re officially confused about the weather. One second it’s sub-zero with sleet, and the next it’s balmy 15-degree sunshine. Seriously, Britain—make up your mind. But of course, this is the nature of spring, and every year, we manage to power through the meteorological mayhem and make it to the other side where summer awaits. It’ll happen. We promise.
So when it comes to deciding what to wear this March, we’re taking a tentative—but no less stylish—approach and offering up a slew of simple outfits that can easily be layered up or dressed down according to your needs. For example, fashion influencer Fran perfectly adapts a spring-ready leather skirt for unexpected wind chill with a printed cardigan and knee-high boots. For a smarter spin, we’re looking to Brittany Bathgate, who layers up a pleated midi (another spring staple) with a wool workwear jacket.
The secret to their success? All these outfits feature pieces that can be brought out the moment summer hits, and that’s what we call getting more bang for your buck. Scroll down to see our full edit of March-ready outfits.
1. Waistcoat + Tailored Trousers

@stephaniebroek
Style Notes: Waistcoats are the unlikely wardrobe staple making a comeback this season. Style them out with colour-match trousers and gold jewellery.

Wear this without anything underneath for a cool spin on the going-out top.

Chain necklaces are always a good idea.

The best way to ease yourself into wearing linen again.
2. Knitted Co-Ords

Style Notes: Give your co-ords a springtime overhaul by investing in a two-piece in a seasonally appropriate hue. Our vote? Green.

The addition of beige within this weave makes it more versatile than you might think.

Flared trousers are still all over my IG feed.

Oval sunglasses are a key trend for spring.
3. Leather Midi Skirt + Printed Cardi

Style Notes: Layering connoisseurs, take note: If you’re desperate to wear your spring skirt but it’s not warm enough yet, simply style it with knee-high boots and a printed knit.

£72
A welcome change from leopard motifs.

Switch out black leather for lighter colours to make your looks more springlike.

Don’t say goodbye to boots just yet.
4. Pleated Skirt + Jacket + Flats

@brittanybathgate
Style Notes: We’ve seen a fair few people in this Arket pleated skirt. We can imagine wearing it with a white tee and denim jacket for the warmer months.

An ideal piece for layering this spring.

A skirt you’ll wear forever.

The stacked sole really updates the traditional brogue.
5. Ruffled-Collar Blouse + Leather Trousers

@lindatol_
Style Notes: It’s official: We’re still on to the big collar this spring. Best of all, this trend lends itself perfectly to layering. Make like Linda and layer yours under a crew-neck knit.

A wardrobe essential.

The ideal accompaniment to ’70s wide-leg jeans.

I love this slouchier take on leather trousers.
6. Denim Dress + Socks + Sandals

@emilisindlev
Style Notes: Lockdown turned us into a nation of sock-and-sandal lovers, and I don’t know about you, but I’m totally up for heading out the house in the pairing this March. Just me?

Try layering this dress over leggings and cropped trousers to get even more outfit mileage out of it.

Cosy socks I’d like in every colour.

How cool are these slides?
7. White Jeans + Slouchy Cardigan + Cage Sandals

@tylynnnguyen

Cardigans are my weakness, and this one feels so special.

So many people I know rave about these jeans.

The cage sandal is back for another year, which is great news if you’ve already invested in a pair.
8. Satin Dress + Saddle Bag + Leather Loafers

@chrissyford
Style Notes: It’s never too early to invest in a strong wedding guest dress, and this tangerine satin number is one of the best I’ve seen so far in 2022. Wear it before and between celebrations with a pair of leather loafers in a light colourway.

It looks just as good with heels, right?

Such a versatile bag.

These look so premium.
9. Suede Jacket + Straight-Leg Jeans + Clogs

Photo:
@monikh
Style Notes: Suede comes into its own in the springtime, as it presents a softer way to wear leather for the brighter months. I like how Monikh has doubled up on the suede textures with her jacket-and-Bikrenstock combo.

Two of our team own this jacket already and really rate it.

H&M jeans are so strong this season.

These clogs are flying right now.
10. Knitted Dress + Mules

Photo:
@sasha.mei
Style Notes: Ease yourself into dress season with a knitted iteration, which will provide you with some extra warmth. When the weather’s playing ball, pair yours with black leather mules for a cool contrast.

Layer this over a merino wool roll-neck until temperatures heat up.

Jewellery that’ll elevate every look.

The mules that are currently on my wish list.
11. Denim Boilersuit + Jumper + Loafers

Photo:
@abimarvel
Style Notes: Fancy a change from dresses but still want a simple outfit solution? Look no further than the denim jumpsuit.

The lighter wash of this jumpsuit is perfect for the warmer months.

A cosy layer for the chillest days.

The loafers every editor on our team wants.
12. Bold Blouse + Statement Trousers

Photo:
@meganadelaide
Style Notes: Why stick to one statement piece when you can wear two at once? Take a bold printed blouse and pair it with bright trousers to create a standout spring look in literal seconds.

Paisley is all too often overlooked.

Gold earrings complete the look.

Wide-leg trousers have never looked so good.
